Crossfire Game Pieces
Firefighting is full of dangers, some of which robots will be facing during the BEST competition. Take a look at the pieces used on the game field this year and learn more about firefighting.
Manny the Manikin (PVC Rescue Dummy)
Manny is a rescue dummy made of PVC pipes and rope. In all firefighting situations, the main objective of the firefighters is to make sure that everyone is safe and secure. The GEARS technicians have designed Phoenix to be able to safely rescue Manny and move him from the burning building to the stretcher. Weight: 15.7 oz |
Water (Practice Golf Balls)
Water in the BEST competition is represented by plastic practice golf balls. Water is essential to most forms of firefighting, and the GEARS robot does not lack the ability to use this important tool of fire extinguishment. R8A Phoenix will be able to launch water into the no-entry zone in a safe, practical, and effective way. Weight: 0.11 oz |
Flames (Plastic Cups)
Plastic cups stacked in a triangle are used to simulate fire on the BEST playing field. GEARS has figured out how to make fighting this dangerous element safer with the advantage of robotic technology. Weight: 11.7 oz |
Chemical Drums (Quart-sized Paint Cans)
Chemical drums are represented by quart-sized paint cans in the game. In many fire-ridden situations, hazardous materials must be removed from the scene in order for fire extinguishment to be safely effected. R8A Phoenix will be able to remove chemical drums from the field, thus making the area surrounding the fire more safe. All the chemical drums will be different weights, as in a real-life situation. Our robot will be able to handle these varying levels of difficulty. Weight: 1.01 lbs (lg.), 0.8 lbs (med.), 0.59 lbs (sm.) |
