Our Robot: R8A "Phoenix"

R8A Phenix
  • The R8A "Phoenix" was developed by GEARS, Inc. for firefighters across the country. Our robot is designed to rescue unconscious people from the premises of a burning building, remove hazardous material from the fire scene, and extinguish the fire in the building. It was named "Phoenix" to represent life through the fire.

  • The robot consists of several different systems:
The drive system consists of two wheels and propels the robot across the field.
The hazardous material removal system consists of a double claw to increase productivity. The double claw also doubles as a rescue device for "Manny" the manikin.
The water cannon (AKA Georgia Launcher) consists of a small motor and a bungee cord to power the hammer system. We also included a hopper for the "water" (practice golf balls) to feed into the Launcher.
